Privacy policy
What we collect, why we need it, who sees it, and how to reach us about it.
1. Who we are
IHAE Learning (“IHAE”, “we”) runs ihaelearning.com, where families find one-on-one online tutors and tutors apply to teach. Questions about this policy go to josephkim@ihaelearning.com.
2. What we collect
Your account. Name, email, U.S. phone number, whether the account is for a student and parent or for a tutor, and a password (stored only as a secure hash). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from them.
Tutoring requests (Get Started). The student's name, age, grade and school; a parent or guardian's name for students under 18; contact email and phone; the subjects, goals, schedule and tutor you ask for; and any comments.
Tutor applications. Contact details, education, subjects, experience, availability, an optional photo and your resume.
Messages. What you write in IHAE chat, and the request cards that appear there.
Sessions and payments. Session times, cancellations, the notes tutors write after a session, and what was charged or refunded. If online payments are available for your account, your card is saved with Stripe; we only keep its brand, last four digits and expiration date. When tutor payouts are available, Stripe collects identity and bank details; we don't store your bank account number.
Reviews. The stars and words you write about a tutor.
Technical data. The session cookie that keeps you signed in, your IP address for security and rate limits, and a bot check (Cloudflare Turnstile) on some forms. We don't use advertising or analytics trackers.
3. Children and students
IHAE accounts are for parents and guardians, or students 13 and older. For a child under 13, a parent or guardian creates the account, provides the child's details and manages the account, including its chat; we don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 gave us information without a parent, email josephkim@ihaelearning.com and we'll delete it.
Student information is used only to arrange and run sessions. We never sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
4. How we use it
- To run your account and sign you in.
- To match a student with a tutor, book and schedule sessions, and keep in touch about sessions.
- To confirm payment arrangements, and when online payments are available, take payment for sessions, send receipts and refunds, and pay tutors.
- To review tutor applications, interview applicants and publish selected tutors' profiles.
- To deliver chat messages and email you about your requests, applications and account.
- To keep IHAE safe: preventing spam and abuse, and investigating reports.
6. Cookies and your browser
We use a cookie to keep you signed in. If you select “Remember my email”, your email is saved in your browser. After you send a request, a short summary is kept in that browser tab until you close it. Nothing else is stored for tracking. We don't track you across other websites, so there's nothing for a browser “Do Not Track” signal to switch off.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open and as long as we need it for sessions, records and legal obligations. Chat messages and session notes stay while the account is open. Payment and tax records, and your agreement to weekly sessions, are kept for the periods the law requires (generally several years), even after an account is closed.
You can close your account in My account, Settings. To ask us to delete other information, email josephkim@ihaelearning.com.
8. Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or to stop non-essential emails, by writing to josephkim@ihaelearning.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state law; we'll respond to requests as those laws require.
9. Security
Passwords are hashed, connections are encrypted, resumes are only available to IHAE staff, and access to personal data is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong, we'll tell affected people as the law requires.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell account holders by email when the change is significant. See also our Terms of service.
